The University System of Maryland (USM) Learning & Talent Development Committee brings together learning, training, organizational development, and human resources professionals from institutions across the USM to support employee growth and development. The committee was formed through collaboration among professionals who recognized that many institutions faced similar learning and development challenges and could achieve greater impact by working together.
Our mission is to create meaningful opportunities for employees to learn, grow, connect, and thrive throughout their careers. By sharing expertise, resources, and innovative ideas across institutions, we expand access to professional development and create learning experiences that support a stronger workforce across the University System of Maryland.
Professional Development Week is the committee's signature annual event and one of the largest collaborative learning initiatives in the USM. Led by volunteers from institutions across the system, PD Week provides employees with free access to high-quality learning opportunities, practical tools, and valuable connections with colleagues from across Maryland.
This year's theme, Fall into Success: Learning, Leading, and Thriving Together, recognizes that success is not achieved alone. It is built through continuous learning, thoughtful leadership, meaningful connection, and a shared commitment to growth. As the higher education landscape continues to change, Professional Development Week brings colleagues together from across the University System of Maryland to exchange ideas, develop new skills, support one another, and explore what it means not simply to adapt, but to flourish. Together, we are creating workplaces where people, teams, and institutions can thrive.
